Higher Education and the maker movement- Recent attention to the role of making has transformed the way IHEs, especially technical colleges, think about the ecology of teaching and learning. In this session we will discuss EMMET, a new project between UW-Madison and Northcentral Technical College that aims to bring excitment about STEM careers to rural communities through making.

Professor of Educational Psychology / Curriculum and Instruction, UW Madison
Erica Halverson is a Professor of Curriculum & Instruction at UW-Madison where she studies how people learn in and through the arts. Erica has worked in a range of arts media including theatre, film, radio, digital art, and most recently, in the emerging Maker Movement. In 2016, Erica co-edited the two volume Makeology (Routledge, 2016), the first volumes dedicated to empirical research on making and makerspaces in education. Erica is the co-founder of Whoopensocker, a Madison-based arts education collaborative between Theatre Lila and the UW-Madison School of Education that conducts creative arts residencies in elementary schools.
